Mussels Factory

This is the view from Butrinti's fortress toward east. Butrinti lake is very famous for its mussels because it is a salty lake, connected to the sea. If you visit Saranda, mussels is a must taste dish. It should be cheaper than it is, due to proximity with this large scale cultivation but hey, this is a tourist destination, why not exploit them (the tourists) while it lasts?

End of the walls

Walking around we reached the end of the city walls. Maybe they stretched down under the lake centuries ago...

Windowless Window
I took the path to the water pump. There was a guy in front of me. I followed him until he disappeared behind the trees. The pumps building was stripped from everything and it was kinda spooky. I took a couple of photos and got back to my wife.

400
This path leads to the water pump, which I mentioned on the other post. The numbers on the pavement might be used for running. On the left there is the lake of Viroi, on the right there is a water stream. It feeds on the same spring that feeds the lake, runs along its shore (separated from this path) and when it reaches the other side of the lake, they join again. The water is crystal clear but I don't know if it's drinkable. Maybe at the spring, but didn't see any comfortable place to bend over and drink.
This is kinda 20-30 m deep. You could throw a penny and see it on the bottom.

Viroi, Gjirokaster
Viroi is some sort of small and shallow lake, fed by mountain waters during raining season and sometimes becomes dry during summer. The photo on Google Maps shows it as dry actually. The old building seen here used to be a water pump. You can actually walk up there. Behind the building there is a large and deep hole with crystal clear water. Kinda scary, even though you can clearly see the bottom (around 20m ~ 30m deep). On the lake (not shown in this photo), there is a small artificial island with a restaurant on top. It's a great place for a coffee if you pass by.
